Dear Benevolent Soul,
Some will tell you that it is weak and unrealistic to work toward feeling love for all of mankind.
Some are hard to love, some cannot or do not love us back…some cause us pain and heartache and make our lives harder. Why on earth would we ever want to love someone who hurts us in return?
To love is to have a benevolent concern for another human being. To love is to want what is best for another person. How could this ever be a bad thing?
When we love others, it does not mean that we have to spend time with them, compromise our values and beliefs for them, or weaken our boundaries for them (including allowing ourselves or others to be injured, used, or damaged by them)….it simply means that as a member of our human family, we wish them no ill will and have a concern for their welfare and what is best for them. It means we do not hate them, want them to hurt or suffer, and that we see them as someone who is worthy of humane treatment.
And…YOU are so very loved.
