You know, packing up and moving is never easy. Seems like it’s one massive, mega-super-turbo production with a lot of cardboard involved. But when your husband works for a large shipping company, moving from place to place can be … well, inevitable. Since my husband and I have been married (coming up on 33 years), we have moved a total of 19 times. Yes, I’ve counted. ((Insert eyeroll here)) I know! Don’t even ask …
This last move again took us across state lines; and although not too far to travel, still put us in unfamiliar territory. And as tough as a move can be, let’s throw in a couple more things just to liven things up! Thanksgiving, Christmas, Snowmageddon2017, one kinda-new job for the husb, quitting a hard-earned job for me, leaving kids and grandkids behind, misbehaving cars, finding the right house at .. oh, did I mention it was Christmas time?
Is anyone else here a list-maker? I deal with lists. Plans. Goals. More plans. More goals. More lists. All my ducks have to be lined up in that proverbial place where order lives and life just falls into place. You know that place, right? And let’s be honest .. moving, holidays, job hunting, house hunting, etc., just do NOT fit into a nifty, tidy space where all the ducks live. Logistically, there were a lot of things that needed to happen all at once. Like the forces of the universe all needed to come together to make it happen. Fear of the unknown was overwhelming and very real.
Lest you think I was hunkered down in the doldrums of “it’s-all-about-me,” you need to know how happy I was for my husband who had waited a long time for this position to become available. Both of us were thrilled about what this new change would bring. Emotions were high as I would swing from one end of the spectrum to the other.
There’s a long story here. Let’s just whittle it down to this: I. CAN. DO. HARD. THINGS.
I learned a few things about myself through all this. I learned that I am stronger than I think. I learned to dig my heels in and go to work. I learned to look for the light in a hard situation. I learned to let people help me. I learned about patience. And I learned to just let go and to trust.
And here we are! We made it to our destination and all is well with the universe once again! Ducks are happily lined up and ready for new challenges.
Humans of the world .. life is a gift! Please don’t get stuck on the hard things because they won’t last! There is light to be found in every situation. Truly! Even the really hard/tough/sad things you can’t fix. Being our amazing selves, we all have what it takes to conquer and push through the STUFF!
Whatever you’re facing today, know that I’m cheering you on! WE. CAN. DO. HARD. THINGS! Not only can we do hard things. We will come out on the other side and we will be OK.
Find a reason to smile today and have a great rest-of-the week!
