When you’re feeling weak and confused and restless and tired and heartbroken and especially when you’re feeling like you’ll never find the right answers to all of life’s complexities…it always helps to remember that someone, somewhere, in some generation has been through the same feelings or even the same experiences that you are going through.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is how VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT it is that we write down what we are learning, what we have learned and what we are wanting to learn…..because, could John Wayne have known, when he lived between the years of 1907-1979 that when he said some things, or wrote some things down…and then I read it 50 or so years later….
that it would help me through a difficult decision or a rough day or a moment when I felt so blah inside that nothing could ever make me feel alive again?
“Tomorrow is the most important thing in life…Comes into us at midnight very clean. It’s perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we’ve learned something from yesterday.” -John Wayne
Or….could Vincent Van Gogh, who died 80 years before I was even born, could ever have known that his words would illuminate the dark parts of my understanding?
”The fishermen know that the sea is dangerous and the storm terrible, but they have never found these dangers sufficient reason for remaining ashore.” -Vincent Van Gogh
Thank heavens they took the time to write or speak their thoughts…..Here are some beautiful words from beautiful humans, who are so much like we are….
As you read these words….think of the people, known and unknown, who can greatly benefit from what you have learned, what you are trying to learn and what you have yet to learn. We all need each other so much.
“There is nothing to be gained by wishing you were someplace else or waiting for a better situation. You see where you are and you do what you can with that.” -Jacob K. Javits
“We’re given second chances every day day of our life. We don’t usually take them, but they’re there for the taking.” -Andrew M. Greeley
“….remember this maxim; Attacking is the only secret. Dare and the world always yields; or if it beats you sometimes, dare it again and it will succumb.” -William Thackeray
“When you get in a tight place and everything goes against you, til it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then…for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.” -Harriet Beecher Stowe
“You only grow by coming to the end of something and by beginning something else.” -John Irving
“You can do what you have to do, and sometimes you can do it even better than you think you can.” -Jimmy Carter
“It does not take much strength to do things, but it requires great strength to decide on what to do.” -Elbert Hubbard
“A pile of rocks ceases to be a rock pile when somebody contemplates it with the idea of a cathedral in mind.” -Antoine do Saint-Exupery
Love to you All,
Melody

Thank you. I just bought a journal. I really haven’t written in one (consistently) since high school. now is the time for great and wonderful things to be said. I think it is my turn to say them. It is time.
I would also like to say thank you for this blog. It really “spoke” to me. Odd thing is… I hadn’t read this till just now (8:30-ish am Sept. 19) and at about 1:45 am Sept. 19 I pulled out a journal. Just about seven hours ago! (I had just finished a movie and it was late, but something compelled me to stay up a bit longer) And I wrote in it. I wrote about what I have learned on my personal battle with depression. I’ve tried to keep journals. I’m not great at it and haven’t kept up with one. But I figured I would use this journal to write down the positive aspects in life when they come up. I know for me one of my biggest lessons was : Letting go of the past is hard, keeping it is harder. Especially when you want to move forward.
My favorite quote you posted was: “When you get in a tight place and everything goes against you, til it seems as though you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then…for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.” -Harriet Beecher Stowe
I find it very applicable to my own life. Thank you again!
Thank you for all of your words, thoughts and love. I truly appreciate it and it does make a big difference in my day.
i’ve been going through a really really tough time – bout 9 mos now and i’m struggling to see the positives, the light, the goodness in the situation i’m in. Between yesterday’s words class and some of these quotes really stopped me and made me realize that indeed everything will be fine and i must change my mindset.
Thank you for your words of wisdom and sharing words of wisdom that you’ve found.

Its comforting to realize that I’m not the only one experiencing hard things… Like grief. You feel so alone and your whole world is shaken to its core, yet you still go on…
still believe that life can be good. I have been writing through this whole journey and wish I knew how to share what I’ve been through with others. I just don’t know how. I just know that my words might help another brave girl go through life’s hardest journey…
We all need each other..Beautiful canvas and Beautiful words…They got me through this day ♥ I hope all is well with you ♥
referred to this site by a “brave” casual acquaintance. I am 58 years old and find myself in a lifechanging situation. My heart aches and my pride has been crushed. I have taken my comfort zone in a 21 year old marriage for granted. As Winston Churchill once said, “If your going through hell, keep going”. On I march! Thank you for all your words of wisdom and support. Looking forward to my journal.
Hang in there Natalie, we’ve got your back!
Thank you for this lovely message of encouragement. We do all need one another! We never know when the person we’ve just met might be needing our light, or they may be the one that blesses us. Sometimes it is both.It is true, that we receive what we need, though it is not always what we asked for.
