Dear Seeking Girl,

Dreamers are not always treated with kindness and understanding. Visionaries are rarely taken seriously. People who seek for what is good and true are often scoffed, laughed at or shut down.

Are you willing to dream big dreams anyway? Are you willing to believe in the vision you have of what you want the world to be, or what you want your life to be? Are you willing to keep seeking the kind of life that others might say is unrealistic?

It’s brave to keep dreaming big dreams, to keep posing big questions, to decide not to settle for the status quo. It’s brave to seek for more beauty, goodness, joy and light in a world when it’s often so hard to find. It’s so courageous to keep your heart and mind on the good stuff and to ignore the fears that try so hard to keep us from all that our hearts are begging to have and experience.

BUT THE PEOPLE who do these very things are the people who change the world, who lead the way and who live big lives . . . people like YOU.

So…thanks for continuing to believe in a better way…for working towards big things while enjoying the little things along the way….for continuing to seek for sweet fabulousness and when you can’t find it . . . for creating it.

Thanks for being you. Keep being brave.

Dear Wonderful Girl,

It’s hard to feel special or unique or different or relevant or important when there is so much information available about everything and everyone all the time. It is hard to feel like we could ever possibly make a mark or make a difference or make a unique life when we can look around and see that it seems as though there’s already someone doing everything we have ever thought of, or that there are hundreds of others doing it.

It would be easy to simply give up and keep our lives at status quo, and think, “what’s the point of trying to do anything these days, a million others are already doing everything I want to do.”

Clever girl, listen up.

NO ONE has ever existed on this earth who has your exact ideas, mixed with your exact skills, mixed with your exact personality, mixed with your exact style, mixed with your special way of doing things. NO ONE. It may seem as though every mark has already been made that could ever be made, and that there simply isn’t room for you. But this is so untrue. Your unique talents combined with where you are in your life, who you know and who you can help create a situation that will NEVER be duplicated again in all of history.

So please go out and do those things that only you can do. If you do not do those things, they will never be done, and that would be an awful shame — for you and for all of us. We need the best of you. BE BRAVE AND GO FOR IT!

Brave Girls Club - It will be worth it

Dear Blossoming Girl,

Yes yes yes, it is frustrating to go backwards, or what feels like backwards. Yes, it is annoying and downright exhausting to find that in spite of our best efforts and plans, things are spinning, whirling, and making a wild ride out of our life.Sometimes there just isn’t a better way to get to get to where we are going, than to go THROUGH a wild patch of dizzy making ups and downs. Sometimes we want to go around it, but often we really must go THROUGH it.

We learn really good things when we are stretched, pulled, whirled and twirled. We learn things about LIFE, but mostly we learn things about ourselves. We learn that we are pretty darned tough, pretty darned awesome and pretty darned smart.

And when we know that stuff, we know we can do anything.

And then we don’t have to be afraid. We can just live, and do good things and be happy and pull others up when they are down. And then, we realize it was all worth it.

It will be worth it.
You are so very very very loved.

Believe good things…

Dear Courageous Girl,

Sometimes it can feel like there is just nothing good and true left to believe in.

Life is a series of choices, even when we feel like we have no choice at all. We can choose what we do, how we spend our time, how we react to things, how we give, how we share….the choices go on and on.

Never in history, beautiful girl, have there been so many things, opportunities, opinions, groups, causes or theories to choose from. It can be downright overwhelming.

When so much propaganda, doom, gloom and commercialism are screaming in our faces……let’s still believe good things. When broken people are doing things that broken people do….let’s still believe good things. When our lives are topsy turvy and not turning out like we’d planned….let’s still believe good things.

Because, always and forever….there will always be good things to believe in. And…when good things to believe in are hard to find, we always have the power to GO, DO and BE something and someONE good to believe in.

Life is still so very good and you are so very loved.

She’s come a long way, baby …. THE BOOK IS FINALLY HERE!!!! (first printing sold out in days…but we have more now!)

So….can I share one of my happiest times, ever, with you???

Actually…all of us here at BGC are so over the moon about this….Our beautiful new book, A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME VOLUME 1, came in about a month ago and the whole first printing was gone in a flash. We have been wanting to tell you all about it but had to wait until the next printing was in…and it is finally in…YAY!!! So now…..we can tell you all about it and hope that you will love it as much as everyone who has one in their hands is loving it. We are so incredibly honored by all of the beautiful things happening with this book….

I will never forget the day we got the book in the mail….it was such a happy day…even though I looked like this (yes, I am still battling hives…getting better every day though..thank you for your continued kindness and sweet messages/emails/notes)….and if you have no idea what I am talking about….here’s the first post about it and why I haven’t been around much as I have been trying to heal.

Anyway…the book….it was months and months and months of constant artmaking….we wanted it to be as beautiful as possible…we wanted it to be filled with as much love as possible. Here’s a photo of our beautiful new book, along with the first books I ever wrote (and on the very day we got the new books, someone very special gave me her copies of my old books!) these were written more than 15 years ago from my kitchen table……they are funny little books…I know…but I will tell you more about that at the bottom of the post.

When we announced that we were publishing a book of the daily truths…the response was overwhelming. The comments that came in, telling us about how these daily emails were spreading all over the world, continue to fuel us to keep going with all of the love and enthusiasm that we started this whole project with in the first place. READ SOME OF THE COMMENTS HERE to learn more about how spreading a little love and a little kindness every day can go a very long way. We are so touched, knowing what happens when you all open these emails!!

Sooooo….we decided to begin publishing the daily truths into a book…..not just ANY book….but it had to be an absolutely beautiful book…filled with all of the love that these messages are sent out with……

The book is SOOOO beautiful. Kathy and I worked on it for a very long time and didn’t let it go to print until it was exactly how we envisioned it. We want it to be the perfect gift to give to everyone you love….every girl of every age.

So……we hope you will order your copy too. And we hope that when you open it, and when you read it, that you will know for sure that it was written and made JUST FOR YOU….because it really really really was. We adore you, we love you, we root for you, we appreciate you, we are in awe of you. We hope that you feel every one of those feelings as you read through this book….we are already working on more volumes!

So….the story about the funny little books in the top photo…..I don’t know how many of you know that when I was 25….I wrote a little book and put a little ad in a little magazine. I sold over 20,000 copies of that book in the first 6 months and then went on to put together more volumes and more volumes…..and over the course of about 10 years….sold almost a million copies of these little books……they were dorky looking and totally homemade…but man, they were full of good words, and I guess that is why everyone liked them as much as I did.

It is surreal and beautiful to see our beautiful new book full of words next to these original books from 15 years ago. These 3 copies actually were a gift from a beautiful brave girl who came to camp last month….she gifted me with them after telling me the story of how these have been one of her most prized possessions. I love how well-loved, well-used, dog-eared and written in they are. When she gave these to me, it was one of the most touching moments of my life….for reals. I don’t even have any copies of these books. Things were so difficult and painful in my life during that time that I actually got rid of everything from that time. To have these in my hands now that I feel such complete healing is a huge gift.

And to have them show up in my life in the exact moment that OUR BRAND NEW BOOK showed up, was kind of a surreal little miracle.

Anyway…..we sure love you. Thank you for being part of this. We are so grateful every single day to be able to be a part of it.
