Meet Full Circle Exchange
Full Circle Exchange is a non-profit social enterprise brand dedicated to empowering women and whole communities to rise above poverty through design partnerships, innovative products and sustainable economic opportunities.
Rather than creating dependency on aid, Full Circle Exchange takes a market-based approach to alleviate poverty by advancing entrepreneurial solutions rooted in the dignity and creative capacity of the individual. By focusing on poverty reduction through design training, job creation, improved incomes, education and access to global markets, we believe that, when equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help lift whole families and entire communities out of poverty.
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
As Americans become increasingly concerned about the state of the world and look for opportunities to use their power in the marketplace to make a positive difference, Full Circle Exchange seeks to provide an avenue for consumers to vote with their dollar. By purchasing Full Circle Exchange products you become part of the ongoing story to empower women to live up to their fullest potential. Together, we can be a force for change! What is the “Empowering Women Together” initiative by Walmart?
Women in the world’s economically-challenged nations − and even here in our own backyard − dream of a better life. Yet for most, entrepreneurial success is an exception, not because they lack the ability or drive, but because so often they lack the opportunity.
Walmart is working to change that. “As part of our commitment to empower women worldwide, we’ve launched Empowering Women Together, a Store For Good, and a dedicated space on Walmart.com that connects products from women-owned businesses around the world with U.S. consumers. Our hope is to provide these hard-working women with opportunities to improve their own lives, while creating new jobs and enhancing the lives of their families and their communities. Each supplier in the Empowering Women Together program is a woman-owned business or an aggregator with the mission of supporting women-owned businesses.”
Brave Girls Club is proud to be a small part of this project to place a huge selection of Mother’s Day gift products in every Walmart store in the US, designed by Melody and assembled or finished by hundreds of our at-risk worldwide sisters…providing them with fair paying jobs and new skills that will help them to support themselves and their families. Walmart is using their global influence and opening their checkbooks to support and empower women around the world. Learn more on their website.
Beautiful refugees right here in Idaho
Full Circle Exchange is developing a powerful Job Readiness pilot program to empower women at risk to rise out of poverty through sustainable economic opportunities. That means JOBS…work to do to support themselves and their families. For the last 5 months they have had the honor to work with over 1000 women from the U.S. and around the world.
Boise, Idaho, is one of over 200 resettlement communities across the U.S providing safe haven to refugees from war torn countries across the world. Nearly 6,000 individuals from 35 countries call Boise their home. Full Circle Exchange’s Job Readiness pilot program assists local refugees in providing immediate income and developing daily hands-on skills, such as team building, problem solving, attendance, positive attitude, language acquisition and creative thinking.
Women from this group have been employed and trained to assemble the beautiful products such as coffee mugs, jewelry and greeting cards that will be offered by Walmart this Mother’s Day! We were privileged to interview many of these women and learn their courageous stories (which will be published on our Blog between now and Mother’s Day). We know that you will enjoy getting to know them as much as we have…we learned that we have so much in common.
What about helping women locally?
It’s a fair question. Be assured that Full Circle Exchange and Walmart both have robust programs in place to assist at-risk and in-transition women both in the U.S. and abroad including:
- Refugee women who have been relocated from unsafe locations around the world
- Rescued victims of human trafficking and slavery, both U.S. and abroad
- Women who are leaving the prison system
- Victims of ongoing domestic abuse
- Women from a variety of transitional situations who need a way to build a sustainable future for themselves and their families
Here’s how you can get involved:
- Between April 21, 2014 and May 11, 2014, visit Walmart to shop for your Mother’s Day gifts at the special ‘island’ display of beautiful gifts designed by Melody Ross and partially assembled by in-transition women.
- You’ll find beautiful, meaningful, affordable, high-quality gifts that you will be proud to give.
- Purchasing these products opens the door for future contracts with major retailers to carry similar lines, ensuring that job creation continues and flourishes.
- Other retailers are watching this campaign to see if supporting future campaigns makes economic sense for them. In a nutshell, if we can quickly sell out of these products, we will get their attention. YOU CAN HELP MAKE THAT HAPPEN by shopping and spreading the word!
- Visit http://facebook.com/fullcircleexchange and click LIKE so that you receive ongoing updates on ways you can continue to participate, including opportunities for fun giveaways.
Make Brave Girl Truth Cards
