Have you ever felt insecure about your looks? Are you scared that you might look too young or too old than your actual age? You feel as if you have no sense of fashion and people are laughing at you? Do not worry because you are not alone! Many people feel that way. Your insecurity is valid but you cannot let it control you. You can try to change your style by following the current fashion trends, though you can also just be yourself! If you think that being “you” is lame, here are some reasons we have to reassure you that it is fine for you to continue being yourself.
1. Beauty and fashion is subjective
Let’s get straight to the point, beauty is subjective. You might think that you are ordinary or “ugly” but what made you think so? Beauty standards have always been a constant debate as they are no base for it. As the saying goes, “A man’s meat can be another man’s poison”, an ordinary person might be pretty for someone else and vice versa. Beauty standards are false and biased. A woman, or even a man, can be however they want and they can still be considered “beautiful”. If you are fat, you are still beautiful. Even if you are skinny, you are still beautiful. You are beautiful regardless of what those “beauty standards” talk about.
Fashion is also subjective. Different people have different taste in what a good or bad fashion is. You can never, I repeat, never satisfy and amaze everyone at the same time. No matter how fashionable you are, there will always be someone who thinks your fashion is lame. So why bother being stuck up with the idea that you have zero fashion taste and is ugly?
2. You have your own style
Fashion trends, honestly speaking, are beautiful and great. However, you need to remember that not everything will look good on you. Why? Because you have your own style! You cannot just hop on the hype train and wear whatever the internet says is trendy. There are certain things that will enhance your appeal while some will make you look funny and weird. This is because all of us have our own style.
Before thinking that wearing whatever trendy can make you look better, you need to find your own style first. Find something that you are comfortable with and scream “you”. Once you know your own style, whatever happens, you will still look good! That is why, it is important to just be yourself. Develop your style and sense of individualism! You will definitely look way better than just doing whatever others said.
3. Fashion changes every month
Fashion trends also change almost every month! What is trendy today might no longer be trendy the next day. This is more than a solid reason for you to just be yourself. If you are too hung over the fact you HAVE to follow the trends, then you will lose your own identity. As said before, developing your own style is better than blindly following the trends.
Trends will die when the hype is over, and you will also lose all the money that you used to buy those clothes as they are no longer “pretty” nor “trendy”. But it is different when you have your own style. You can also look like “you” no matter what time or where you are at.
4. Being true with yourself is better
Let’s be honest, sometimes, it feels weird when you try new clothes or fashion. Sometimes you feel like you are not being you and you are just faking it. This is possibly because we are not used to doing something out of our comfort zone, or it just does not feel like you. You can attract tons of attention from others you want but at the end of the day, you want to impress yourself only. You will definitely feel more comfortable by just being yourself. And there is nothing wrong with that! It is good that you feel that way.
In the end of the day, fashion and beauty are subjective and can change from time to time. You, however, will always be you and will not change. That is why it is okay to just be yourself. There is nothing wrong with developing your own sense of individuality because you will shine better with your own light. No matter what others say or think about you, what matters the most is your feelings. Just be yourself! Your life will be way better than before.
