A healthy, glowing skin reflects how healthy you are deep inside. To achieve that, we all know we should exercise daily, destress and eat healthy. That is not all, though. There is a need to follow a regular skincare routine. Yes, you read that right, even your skin needs a boost to look glowing and fresh. Here are some foods that may help you achieve that!

  • Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes, the orange substitute to the classic white one, is a great source of beta carotene. Beta carotene converts vitamin A in our bodies. Include this one in your diet. Soon, you may see clearer skin and a glowing complexion. If you’re lucky, you might see fewer wrinkles.

blueberries

  • Blueberries

Antioxidants are crucial for glowing skin, and you can get these from blueberries. Luckily, you can easily incorporate them in your diet. Blueberries are probably some of the little fruits you used to eat and pick back when you were a kid. They are said to have one of the highest levels of antioxidants, compared to other vegetables and fruits. They’re not so nutritious. However, they pack skin glow-boosting benefits!

  • Avocados

Just had an avocado cafe or toast? You’ll be surprised to know that these yummy snacks double as a skincare mecca. It’s as good for your skin as it is for your Instagram feed. Avocados have healthy fats, such as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated, that work to keep our skin moisturized. In addition to that, avocados are filled with antioxidants like carotenoids, Vitamin E and Vitamin C.

  • Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is packed with healthy vitamin C. Hello smooth, supple skin! Vitamin C serves as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals that damage cells. While it’s acidic, lemon offers alkalizing effects in our bodies, helping balance pH levels. This is highly beneficial for our complexion. When pH levels are messed up, skin can become irritated, sensitive or acne-prone. Adding lemon to our drinking water also makes us want to hydrate more.

leafy greens

  • Leafy greens

Is there anything greens cannot do?! Both spinach and kale are rich in a wide range of antioxidants that help lessen skin inflammation. Leafy vegetables can also help even out our skin tones. Now, how to leverage on this awesome green leafy power? Add some greens to at least two meals each day to optimize these benefits.

  • Dark Chocolate

Best news ever. Dark chocolate is not just a dessert. It’s also a beauty food. According to a study, antioxidants from cocoa can protect the skin from oxidative stress, resulting in premature aging. It’s time to let your mother know that your childhood chocolate addiction was actually good for your health. Well, it’s healthy if your chocolate of choice has 75% cacao. Here’s an advice, always opt for “dark” ones with 80% to 90% cacao to satisfy your sweet tooth and boost skin glow.

  • Garlic

Garlic is delicious and healthy. It’s packed with allicin, a naturally occurring chemical that, when digested, acts against harmful bacteria. This includes acne-causing bacteria, and those that lead to skin infections. Suffering from acne? Add a bit more garlic to your meals to maximize its benefits.
