Life is constantly taking place around us. It doesn’t matter whether we’re ready or not. Sometimes, even the good things can be overwhelming as well. Constant progression and growth can wear us out. We are the commander of our ships, so it’s important to anticipate what we need to get through all the challenges.
Practice self-care as you go along the hustle and bustle of life. If needed, take constant breaks. Don’t hesitate to take that much-needed mental health day. With or without sick days, below are a few rituals that you can practice.
- Cry.
It’s perfectly fine to cry. Let all of those feelings out. At times, it just feels fantastic to cry. That’s catharsis in its purest form.
- Sleep long hours.
Reward yourself. If all else fails, take a nap. 10 to 15 minutes of eye shut is enough to freshen up your mind. Upon waking up, you’ll realize the amazing change it can make to your mindset.
- Stop what you’re doing and breathe.
This is actually one of the simplest things you can do. Just stare outside the window and take deep breaths. This is even more relaxing when you’re in panic mode. IT’s best to be still and pause. Look for a quiet corner and stay calm.
- Meditate.
You don’t need to be in a lotus position or lie down to meditate. You just need to be fully in the moment. Meditation can also take the form of drawing and painting. It’s basically a type of escape from everything that is happening around you. Consider that a “creative” escape. Another kind of meditation? Sit on your car for a few seconds!
- Take a short walk.
When breath control and sitting isn’t enough, try walking. You can pace and take laps around your office, without any destination or purpose. Just move your body. If you’re feeling “stormy,” walk around the parking lot or climb the stairs. Oftentimes, a change in temperature can shake your feelings loose.
- Give your body some good fuel.
Sometimes, things can go from “manageable” to the ultimate “nope.” At times, you get to deal with it, sometimes not. You need energy fuel to deal with all the chaos. Don’t forget to hydrate and eat delicious, healthy food.
- Allow yourself not to be okay.
You’re a powerful and strong person, but you’re still human. You’re not a robot. We all have needs and feelings that should be honored. It’s okay to feel bad at times. It’s also fine to take a break. It’s natural to feel imperfect. When life passes by you too fast, catch your breath and permit yourself to stop.
