Loving someone genuinely and wholeheartedly is beautiful. Whether it’s romantic love or family love, it’s important to ensure that the people around you know how you feel about them. Tell them that your love is not going anywhere. Maybe they already know this, but giving reminders once in a while wouldn’t hurt.
Want to buy an expensive gift for a special someone? Planning an extravagant gesture is sweet and wonderful, but that’s not the only way. There are countless ways to remind people that you love them. No huge gestures required, no huge spending necessary.
- Be their number one fan.
Be your loved ones’ biggest fan. Always hold proverbial pom-poms for your special people. It’s easy. Share their work and attend their events. If you’re away, send them clapping hand emojis, virtual high-fives, and “proud of you” messages. Taking pleasure in even their smallest victories is a win-win situation for everyone.
- Don’t forget to speak in their love language.
Know their love language and “speak” it. There are 5 love languages–how you give, experience and receive love. If you are not familiar with these, learn it. They are: words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, gifts and physical touch. While your own love language is one thing, theirs could be another. Do you think they need a good hug or some movie time?
- Listen to them.
Ask them questions once in a while. Silly ones. Hypothetical ones. Deep ones. Know their allergies, the name of their first love, the reason they got those scars and so forth. By listening and learning more about them, you’re making them feel that they are being understood, seen and heard.
- Show up.
Visit your newly pregnant friend. Care for a nauseously couch-ridden relative. If possible, visit them in their homes. Schedule a FaceTime session once in a while. It doesn’t matter whether you’re literally knocking on their doors, or just virtually. Just be there each time they need you.
- Be there in the worst times.
A simple “Hello, I know it’s a big day today, sending love” message goes a long way. Take note of wedding anniversaries and birthdays. In that simple way, you can make yourself available for everyone. Sometimes, sending random sweet messages also helps. Let them know that you’re thinking about them, most especially during the toughest times.
